The Sacred Heart School of Halifax is one of the best schools Halifax has to offer. It was founded in 1849 and continues to be the oldest continually operating private school in Halifax, as well as the only single-sex Catholic school in Nova Scotia.
When it comes to private schools in Nova Scotia, Sacred Heart offers an educational opportunity that's second to none. With approximately 500 students enrolled, Sacred Heart has very low staff to student ratios (8:1, with an average class size of 13-17 students), allowing for the most engaging educational experience possible. We are proud of the number of students who graduate from our school to pursue postsecondary studies, as well as the $550,000 dollars of scholarships and awards for postsecondary studies that were granted to Class of 2015 students.
Sacred Heart offers a number of extracurricular activities and many of our teams have been recognized for their achievements. We are proud to be recognized as the top debating school in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Canada. The school is also a member of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) and runs a number of competitive sports, including soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball and golf. Most recently, the girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball teams have been recognized as Division 4 Nova Scotia provincial champions.
We are particularly proud of our language department, which teaches students at a young age the importance of other languages and cultures. French instruction begins in Junior Primary, and our unique bilingual Grade 1 and 2 program establishes a strong base in both the French and English language. From Grade 3 - 12 French is taught every day, and in High School students have the opportunity to elect a Spanish course. The school’s exchange program allows the students to practise the languages they’ve learned at any one of the 145 sister schools that are a part of our network.
The Sacred Heart School of Halifax is considered by many to be the best school in Halifax, and is a proud member of the Canadian Accredited Independent School (CAIS) body.
