Huge congratulations to Margaret (Meg) Currie who was accepted into the National Youth Choir for 2018. This elite Choir, made up of youth between 18-25, selects an extremely small number of singers from each province to join every two years. In 2018, the stage is set for Newfoundland, where the Choir will rehearse for one week and then tour across the province for another two. This was Meg’s first year of eligibility and considering most of the Choir members are university students, this is beyond impressive. Meg will be joining Rhian Merritt, daughter of SHSH Music Chair and choral musician herself, Adele Merritt.
The reviews are in and the SHSH Elementary Choir were show-stoppers at the Halifax Jazz Festival production of "Tales of a Charlie Brown Christmas" with Jerry Granelli on December 10th. The sold-out show, which has become a must-see event in Halifax, was filled with music, laughter and memories. It's certainly an honour for the Choir to be showcased with such legendary talent. Kudos go to the Choir and of course our brilliant Elementary Music Director, Adele Merritt.
Writing with a purpose! At the end of November, wrapping up an author study unit, the grade one students wrote letters to well-known children's author Robert Munsch telling him about their favorite books. They recently received a package from him containing a letter, a poster, and an unpublished manuscript with a few of their names added as characters. To say there were excited is an understatement! Big thanks to Mr. Munsch for taking the time to be so thoughtful; this is something the kids will remember for years.
