International Applicants

Sacred Heart School of Halifax offers international students access to a first-class education while they continue to improve their English skills in one of the most vibrant and beautiful cities in Canada.

International students have the option to choose one of three different streams.

  1. University Pathway – For students looking to eventually attend university, this two-to-five-year Senior School pathway is the perfect choice. In addition to their core academic experience which may include Advanced Placement classes (AP), students will be provided with tailored guidance and preparation in order to navigate the university application process and increase their chances of being accepted into the university of their choice.

  2. Full School Year – International students can choose to study at Sacred Heart for one academic year (10 months) in which they can gain invaluable experience at a Canadian high school while improving language skills, taking part in extracurricular activities, and navigating life in a different country. Some students join in our grades 8, 9, 10, or 11 and continue until they graduate in grade 12. Others join for one full school year only (10 months).

  3. Short-Term – To get a taste of the Canadian high school experience, international students are welcome to join Sacred Heart for a four or six-month term at the start, middle, or second half of the school year. This opportunity will allow students to better understand life and school in Canada, gain new experiences, and return to their home country after the completion of this short term.

As part of our program, students have access to English as an Additional Language (EAL) program where they can get as much support as they need, and they can take part in a variety of clubs and extra-curricular programs like debate, robotics, band, drama, and yearbook. As part of their experience here, students also learn about Halifax and Nova Scotia through a wealth of fun outings and field trips. This can include activities like ice-skating on the Emera Oval, city tours on the Harbour Hopper, a visit to Sugar Moon Farm to learn about maple syrup, watching Halifax Mooseheads hockey games, and pizza and movie nights.

International students are required to live in Halifax with at least one parent for the duration of the school year. If this is not an option, the international student must be placed in our Homestay Program, where they live with a local family.

International student tuition is all-inclusive and covers:

  • Our Homestay Program, including a private room, study area, all meals, and participation in family life
  • Health insurance
  • Uniform
  • Monthly transit pass
  • Trips and activities
  • EAL support and classes

Students are encouraged to apply directly or through one of our partner agencies. Please contact our Admissions Office for assistance.
