Student Exchange Program: A Global Life Lesson
That global diversity is what makes our Exchange Program one of the most unique in the world. What adds to the appeal is that when our students travel to another country, or an exchange student travels to Canada, they stay with another Sacred Heart family, one which has been drawn to the same mission, creating a powerful, loving continuum for any student leaving home.
The Best Laid Plans…An Advent Message
If I have come to depend on my phone for one thing more than any other, it would be the calendar app. The days when the phone gets forgotten on the kitchen counter are frustrating because I never quite feel on top of my day, or the least bit confident that I haven’t missed some commitment or other.
Just Like Team Canada, We Need A Great Strategy
In team sports, success can be equated with good strategy. As the World Cup got underway rest assured that Team Canada spent hours on the practice pitch running through a full playbook of specific techniques and tactics — their strategy. Each player strives to improve their individual skills but more importantly, it’s how those individuals come together as a team using their strategy that will have the most impact.
How Does Our Garden Grow?
Outdoors, the sky is blue, the air is clear, and the trees are on fire with red, orange, and yellow leaves. Fall is in full swing, and that means a season of abundance. If you head out of the city there are fields full of pumpkins and trees full of apples, ripe and ready for picking. All over the province, our farmers’ markets are bursting with all kinds of fresh produce, the result of long hours of sunlight and even longer hours of hard work by farmers and farm workers.

Generosity is one of the hallmarks of our Sacred Heart community.
Time and time again, our community answers the call with resources, expertise, time, dedication, and, of course, financial gifts. Without this support, we could not continue to provide the outstanding educational experience for which we are known. From alums to parents, grandparents to faculty, friends to foundations — all share a deep and abiding belief in and commitment to our unique Mission and the incredible legacy this School has made for all who are part of it.
As a not-for-profit, independent school, we receive no outside funding and rely instead on the generosity of our community. Our gratitude, as a result, knows no bounds.
Philanthropy is an important part of the Sacred Heart culture. That’s because our tuition only covers about 90% of our expenses — things like salaries, books, and supplies. The gaps — things like innovative new technology, professional development, and the operation and maintenance of our historic and iconic building — aren’t covered, and yet they’re imperative. That’s why our Annual Giving Fund is a crucial fundraising priority for the School. Additionally, as an inclusive school that seeks both ethnic and socio-economic diversity, we manage a robust Bursary Fund that provides needs-based funding for students wanting a Sacred Heart education who otherwise would not be able to afford it.

“When we sent our oldest daughter to Sacred Heart, we were immediately struck by how engaged and involved parents were in school life. We now have three girls at school and are constantly reminded of how fortunate we are to have the girls learning in an environment that is nurturing, respectful, and attentive to their needs. Parental involvement – be it through committee involvement, chaperoning field trips, donating, being a class parent, or many other ways – is integral to creating that environment.”
