After months of preparation, our Elementary (“Baby Sharks”) and Senior (Sharks) Robotics Teams recently competed in the First Lego League Junior Robotics Regional Qualifier at NSCC.
Both teams competed in multiple categories including: the Robot Game, where they program a robot to do some pre-determined challenges, the Core Values Challenge, where students work as a group to complete an unknown task, a Robot Design Judging, where students had to explain and defend the choices they made when constructing their robot, and a Project Challenge, where students had to design a solution to a problem encountered in Space. The Senior Team won first place in the Space Project challenge, and will be moving on to Provincials in February - way to go! The Elementary Team was chosen as the alternate team for the provincials! These are great successes for both teams, especially considering many on both teams were new to coding. Big thanks to Jamie MacDonald, the Elementary Coach, and Shoneth Leadbetter, Sara Spears, and Jeremy MacHattie, the Senior Coaches, for providing our students with incredible guidance these past few months, and for helping them code their way to success!
