A very human voice was added to our Senior Girls Remembrance Day ceremony this year as special guests, Mr. and Mrs. Vandervaart joined us to share their memories of the Second World War.
They spoke about their experiences during the occupation of the Netherlands, and through their powerful message to “...not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good,” they reminded us about the importance of love and the strength of the human spirit. The service also included poignant verse and beautiful music, including a lovely rendition of “In Flanders’ Fields” by our Grade 7’s, and a rousing number by our Senior Band reminiscent of the turmoils of war. Thanks to our student leaders who emceed the assembly and distributed pins and poppies to decorate our ceremonial wreaths. It was the right note to begin this long weekend of reflection and remembrance.
