74 students, countless hours of rehearsing, one phenomenal show! The recent Elementary School musical, Seussical Jr., featured students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 (and of course our Grade 1 elephant bird). The cast rehearsed multiple times per week starting in mid-March and their hard work certainly paid off - the show was stunning, both in scope and ambition. That's because Seussical Jr. was unlike any other musical done before at SHSH - students were required to learn three times as much music as in previous years, and they had to both act and sing for the majority of the performance. Of course the musical was more than just a performance; it was a learning experience on many levels, including in all aspects of live theater, but also in life lessons like problem-solving, sharing, quick-thinking, and being a part of something bigger than themselves. A special thank you to all of the students, volunteers, faculty, and staff, who devoted so many hours to Seussical Jr., and also to the incredible band including Barbara Pritchard, Stefan George-Wegner, Linda George-Wegner, and Kurtis George-Wegner. And most especially to Ms. Merritt for bringing Seussical Jr. to life so brilliantly and for ensuring our performing arts program is second-to-none in Halifax.
