She Loves Me is a delightful musical written by Joe Masteroff, based on the 1937 play Parfumerie by Miklós László. The lyrics and music, by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, respectively, are both lively and thought-provoking. Each musical number is accompanied by exciting choreography, courtesy of the Sacred Heart students. The sets, music, and the chemistry among the actors take the audience back to a time of old European glam. This production is one not to miss!
Like every year, the students of Sacred Heart dazzle in this classic romantic comedy that still captures audiences’ hearts today. Set in a European parfumerie in the 1930s, She Loves Me features clerks Georg Nowack (Mitchell Reardon) and Amalia Balash (Abigail Sinclair) who find themselves constantly at odds with each other. Georg eagerly writes to a “Dear Friend” via a Lonely Hearts newspaper column, desperately wanting to discover the identity of the recipient. Meanwhile, two other clerks, Steven Kodaly (David Sapp) and Ilona Ritter (Meg Currie) are deeply in love, taking the other clerks along for the ride of their turbulent relationship. The hard-working yet charismatic boss, Mr. Maraczek (Isaac Burke), sets the stage for a humble parfumerie where both romance and perfume are in the air!
Showtimes are 7:30pm Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th, and there is a 2:00pm matinee on Saturday, April 14th, at the Sacred Heart School of Halifax, 5820 Spring Garden Road.
