Headmistress' Letter

A Warm Welcome

Welcome to Sacred Heart School of Halifax where we are fortunate to have boys and girls from age four through high school graduation. Sacred Heart parents invest in their children because our world needs the vision of those who are creative problem-solvers - critical thinkers with solid moral grounding.

Throughout Canada, you won’t find another school like ours. We are both coed (elementary) and single-sex (senior school), both Catholic and independent, and our students have the best of a small school environment with the many advantages of a larger school.

Rooted in Halifax since 1849, we network with our other Sacred Heart schools in over forty countries. Faithful to the soul of our international tradition, our education is not pre-packaged or prescriptive – we employ deep reservoirs of resources and grapple with real issues through pedagogy and technology inside and beyond our classrooms. Our bilingual and language immersion programmes offer unique opportunities to local students and those from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Mexico, and South America who benefit from our robust home-stay program (think "beyond boarding").

With a 7:1 student to teacher ratio, we support good intellectual risks and affirm positive social-emotional growth. Through athletics, vocal and instrumental music, drama, debating, robotics, international exchanges, community service, clubs, and travel experiences - our students develop and share their gifts, discern what it means to push beyond or respect limitations, and sow the seeds of life-long and formative relationships. Our students learn to be positive and well-respected adults and significant leaders in our world.
