Cross Country At Point Pleasant

The sun was shining as Halifax’s Point Pleasant Park was transformed into a mecca for cross-country runners this week. Hundreds of student-athletes, hailing from all over the Capital Region, converged to fight tooth and nail across the finish line, hoping to secure their teams and themselves a berth in October 24th’s provincial competition.

Leading the charge for our Junior Girls team was Anna MacDonald, who sped past the line to secure herself an individual qualification in 10th place overall; a very impressive result considering there were more than 200 competitors. Anna will join her Junior Girls team which also qualified for the Provincials!

In the Intermediate Girls division, Liviya Driver led the Sharks team by finishing 8th, ensuring her individual spot at the Provincials. Also qualifying for Provincials was our Senior Girls team which had a great day on the course with the entire team placing well.

On the Fountain side, Jon Earle finished an impressive 6th place in his Senior boys division of over 80 racers and will represent Sacred Heart at the Provincials. This despite the fact that at the top of the race he actually lost a shoe! Some people might have panicked, but not Jon! He quickly regained his composure and pressed on in style.

A big congratulations to all of our runners for the time, dedication, and effort they put into their runs. And special thanks to our coaches, Shoneth Leadbetter, Bonnie Lafrank, Kathleen Groves, Jared Griffiths, Laura Elworthy, and Robin Short.
