After a precedent-setting start of the Track and Field season two weeks ago, our student athletes were back on the field last week for the Capital Region Championships.
There were plenty of personal bests and amazing results, including a trio of first place finishes for Maggie Smith in the Senior Girls 800m, 1500m, and 3000m races, a first for Tallulah MacNeil in the Intermediate Girls 3000m, and a first for Sarah MacAskill in the Intermediate Girls 1500m. Tallulah also placed 3rd in 1500m while Sarah placed 2nd in the 3000m and 3rd in the 800m. These results, together with a 3rd place in the team 4x400m relay (Emma Hamlyn, Lauren Titus, Sarah MacAskill, and Tallulah MacNeil), gave our Intermediate Girls the 3rd place overall division title. All of these girls have qualified for the Provincial Championships, as has Maggie, so we’ll be waiting to hear about more stellar results.
Honourable mentions go to the following athletes for their top ten finishes:
Daniel Atherton for placing 6th in the Intermediate Boys 400m
Charlie Simms for placing 5th in the Intermediate Boys 400m and 800m
Emma Hamlyn for placing 6th in the Intermediate Girls 400m, 8th in the 200m, and 8th in Long Jump
Sasha Oreskovich for placing 5th in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put
Brandon Powell for placing 8th in the Junior Boys 800m
Abby Titus for placing 7th in the Junior Girls 3000m
Thanks also go out to our coaches Jared Griffiths, Laura Elworthy, Bonnie LeFrank, Shoneth Leadbetter, Jason Scott, Moria Schrader, and Robin Short.
