Pura Vida!

It was the adventure of a lifetime for 11 of our Sacred Heart students who travelled to Costa Rica over their March Break.
During this service and adventure tour, their main project was planting and maintaining mangroves, a massively important activity in this region of the world. Tropical mangroves protect the land from erosion, store vast amounts of carbon, and provide a natural habitat that supports wildlife and biodiversity. Our students also made a strong impact at a small rural school by donating a large supply of much-needed food, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. There were lots of high-fives, hugs, and even a Canada vs. Costa Rica soccer game; memories they’ll be sure to cherish.

In their down time, students enjoyed zip-lining, kayaking, hiking, and immersive Spanish lessons. And, they practiced their Spanish with locals as they competed in a scavenger hunt which required interacting with the local community, and learning about life in La Fortuna.

Many thanks to Ms. McMullen and Mr. McCallum for chaperoning the trip, and to our students for their “courage et confiance” in all aspects of the adventure, especially for their service to the community of La Fortuna. We’re in good hands if these students’ actions are any indication. Pura Vida!
