After successfully making their way through the preliminary rounds, our Battle of the Books team: Riley Boyd, Christopher Turgeon-Caseley, Lea Retter, Aine Heavey, Nelanga Mtshali and Lucy d'Anjou, accompanied by their fearless leader Ms. Ferguson, competed in the final battle yesterday at the Halifax Central Library.
At the beginning of the school year, these students took the initiative to work their way through a list of over 70 books selected by Woozles in order to compete in the Elementary Division with 14 other teams. Each round consisted of 30 questions which asked teams to identify the title of books being described, and for bonus points, the name of its author. Yesterday, the culmination of months of reading, hard work, and preparation brought them face-to-face with LeMarchant-St. Thomas Elementary School in the final round. While our students kept calm under pressure and truly put their heart (and memories) into it, they were just edged out by a strong champion. Well done reading warriors! The battle may be over, but the literary journey is just beginning!
