Student Athletes Have "Smashing" Good Time at ACIS Badminton Tournament

30 SHSH students began badminton season this past weekend, during the annual ACIS Badminton Tournament at Halifax Grammar School. SHSH athletes competed in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions, with multiple students receiving medals; and our school was named top overall in the tournament!
In the Singles division, SHSH took first and second place in Junior Girls, with a family battle that saw Mariana Sánchez winning gold and sister Paulina Sánchez winning silver. Tad Wilson received the gold medal in Junior Boys, Lareina Shen took gold in the Intermediate Girls, and Omar Quraishi won silver in Intermediate Boys. For Intermediate Mixed Doubles, Tua MacNeil and Jacob Scott won gold, with Claire Rankin and Evan Laurence taking silver. Rounding out the wins for SHSH were Luc Lefrancois and James Simms who won silver in Senior Boys Doubles. The tournament was, as they say in the badminton world, a “smashing” success! Thanks to our coach, Gordon MacKinnon, for his continued support.
