Making Magic with Magnets

How do magnetic levitation trains work? Why are some materials magnetic as opposed to others? What is it like to be a Jedi, and move things with a simple hand motion? Our Grade 3 students discovered the answers to all these burning questions during a recent visit from local magnet expert, and Dalhousie University Associate Professor, Dr. Mae Seto.
Dr. Seto taught our students all about the incredible physical properties of magnetism through a series of hands-on experiment stations. They learned what materials are magnetic and why, how magnets are used in different aspects of engineering, and they even got to make their own Jedi Force Gloves that contained a very powerful magnet. The force is certainly strong with these students!
