Our Annual Elementary School Spelling Bee turned out to be another nail biter last week as 21 students in Grades 4 to 6 took to the stage. After Principal Tugwell reviewed the rules, our Pronouncer (Mrs. Chipman) and Judge (Sr. King, RSCJ) started the competition.
Mrs. Harper-Given - Spelling Club leader and "Mother Bee" - joined our student time-keeper and bell-ringer. Mrs. Ferguson was there to attend to the spellers as they left the competition. For us, a spelling bee is not merely an exercise in memorizing and reciting words. It is a concrete example of Sacred Heart Goal 2 in action - to educate to a deep respect for intellectual values. And there couldn't have been a more fitting final word in the competition; our school champion won with the word curiosity!
Congratulations to our top 3 spellers: Nelanga (Champion), Felicity (First Runner-Up) and Shiang (Second Runner-Up).
