Queen for a Day

Mme. Penner and our Grade Primaries celebrated a French Epiphany tradition in class, as they enjoyed a “galette des rois” otherwise known as a King Cake.
A “galette des rois” is made throughout January in France to celebrate the day the Three Kings visited the infant Jesus. The cake has a special trinket or fève (bean) baked into it, and the lucky person who gets the slice containing the fève is crowned King or Queen for the day. It was Lily who had all the luck on this day. Upon finding the jellybean in her slice she exclaimed, “Je suis la reine” and was crowned Queen for the day!
