St. Mary’s Basilica glowed with the warmth of candles and joyful hearts as we celebrated the beginning of the Advent season.
The primarily student-led service opened with a beautiful rendition of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, and a welcoming address by Senior School Principal Dr. MacAskill. Our student leaders conducted scripture readings and prayers throughout the service, and recited Psalm 100 in six different languages. The Junior and Senior High Choirs lifted our spirits with songs of hope throughout the liturgy, and were accompanied by our very own SHSH musicians. Closing remarks by Sr. Wachter captured how the congregation was feeling - brimming with the hope our students bring for the future, elated with joy for the holiday season, and blessed with the peace in this place we call home.
We would like to thank our music teachers, Gwen Dawson, Rebecca Fear, and Linda George-Wegner, for creating such beautiful music, and our Campus Ministry and the Religious Studies Department for planning the lovely evening. Big thanks as well to our Parent’s Guild for providing the congregation with hot apple cider and delicious holiday treats after the service.
