Through music, poetry, and ceremony, the Elementary School led a profoundly moving and beautiful service of remembrance for those who have sacrificed for our country and those who serve today.
Led this year by Mrs. MacDougall and her students in 6MD, the service included Senior School student Susanna Somerton playing trumpet for the Last Post and Reveille to frame our two minutes of silence. Students painted and decorated dozens of crosses with tissue paper poppies which were then placed outside in our circle to represent and remember some of the over 15 million people who lost their lives in the First World War one century ago. What makes this assembly so special for the School and important for our students is the presence of our honoured guests in uniform. Special thanks go to Lieutenant Colonel Brent Culligan, Royal Canadian Navy, with his children Maeve, Anya and Declan; Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class, Steve Turgeon, Royal Canadian Navy, with his wife Angela and their son Christopher; and Lieutenant Commander Michael Rodriguez, United States Navy, with his wife Lesley and their children, Zoey and Cruz. Special thanks also to Mrs. Jakeman for being our accompanist for O Canada, Megan Thiebeau for accompanying our choir, led by Mrs. Merritt, and Mrs. MacDougall and the students of 6MD for their leadership.
