A Smarter Path to University
The Advanced Placement (AP ) Program
Sacred Heart School of Halifax strategically offers the AP Program. We believe this tailored approach – one where students can pick and choose the subject areas they are most interested in or plan on focusing on in university – offers a more direct and advantageous path to university. Unlike the IB Program, where students must take the same six advanced courses in each of their Grade 11 and 12 years, our students can choose only the ones they want. And that means a more balanced, flexible, and focused educational journey.
At Sacred Heart, we believe academic excellence should expand opportunities — not limit them. The AP Program is a rigorous, globally-recognized program focused on preparing students for university and for success once they get there.
Check out our e-brochure “The Advanced Placement (AP) Program”.
You’ll learn more about:
-
- Why the ability for students to choose ONLY the advanced courses they want means they can focus on their strengths and the areas they want to pursue in university;
- How and when students can choose to take their AP classes, giving them EMPOWERMENT over their own AP journey;
- How this choice means more BALANCE in high school, both academically and socially — which is better for student wellbeing and chance for long-term success;
- How students can earn UNIVERSITY CREDIT before they even step onto a university campus;
- The global recognition the AP Program provides.

“The Advanced Placement Program at Sacred Heart allowed me to challenge myself in the subjects I loved throughout high school. Furthermore, it made my transition to university much easier as I had already learned much of the content across most of my courses in first year. This made my first year much smoother and allowed me to set myself up for success in my undergrad.”
