Headmistress' Message
An Opportunity to Welcome Sr. Anne Wachter
February 14, 2012Open House offers in almost every way, except the absence of the quiet which often prevails in our halls, the ultimate experience of all aspects of Sacred Heart education. It requires careful reconnaissance to plan one's path through the plethora of disparate activities on offer. This is possible, though challenging, if you are the parent, grandparent, or friend of one student; if you have two or more, the planning section of the UN must be called into action. After February 17, please check the Parent Information Centre for the full Open House schedules for our three school divisions – I suggest you take some time to consider what, in addition to your child’s activities you might want to see – the next grade up, some of the amazing science that our senior students are working on, wonderful performances by our many choirs and bands, displays of might in the gym … and so much else.
As one of the few, or perhaps the only person who moves throughout the whole School during the afternoon, and spends several hours from midweek before Open House visiting classes, I can assure you that it is impossible to see everything. What we all do see, is the enthusiasm and confidence of our children/students from ages 4 to 18, and their remarkable accomplishments under the inspiration and guidance of their wonderful teachers.
This year as I enjoy my final Open House as Headmistress, I am delighted that my successor, Sister Anne Wachter, rscj, who begins her term on August 1, is able to join us because her School in San Francisco has "winter break" from February 20-24. She will stay with the Sisters at Barat. The week will offer opportunities for orientation, and Sr. Wachter and I will have time during the week to review aspects of our School’s operations.
Angela Surrette, Board Chair, Sister Wachter, and I will be in the Portry to greet you as you arrive from 12:30 until 1:30 on Sunday. I ask that you providing your names as you meet Sister Wachter – in the midst of the hurly burly, I may be challenged to remember. At 1:30 Angela, Anne, and I, will visit each of our school divisions.

As you know, we welcome students from other Sacred Heart Schools for exchange experiences. Yesterday, Katherine Burkett arrived from Sr. Wachter’s School in San Francisco.
Happy Valentine’s Day – it may be worth considering that the Saint after whom the feast is named was a martyr – the ultimate act of love! Great celebrations in our Elementary School.
Sincerely,
Patricia Donnelly, Headmistress
