About Sacred Heart High School
The Sacred Heart School of Halifax has been educating girls since 1849. We have two classes at each grade level and our average class size is 18. Our school is characterized by a strong academic programme, an atmosphere of faith, a concern for each person, a desire to reach out to our local community and the strength to engage the world at large. We recognize that girls learn differently from boys, and we tailor our teaching approach to capitalize on how girls learn most effectively. In junior high, we focus on developing good study habits and strong organizational skills, test and exam preparation, and fostering a love of learning. In senior high we continue to strengthen the students' critical thinking skills as we prepare them for university.
We also believe that a completely rounded education that addresses intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of growing-up requires students to become involved beyond the classroom. Students can participate in competitive or recreational sports, in band and choir, and in numerous clubs. They can learn about leadership through the Student Council and our prefect system. It is the whole person that must be educated. To impart a sense of worth of character, strength of principles and anchorage in faith is the essence of life at Sacred Heart High School.
