The Campus
Sacred Heart School of Halifax is a registered historic building situated across from the Public Gardens, within easy walking distance of libraries, museums, sports facilities, and art galleries. It is the oldest school in Halifax having operated on Spring Garden Road since 1849. Over the years many changes have been made to the building, including the addition of several wings, and the removal of a wing. The original central tower houses the school chapel, reception parlours, and fine arts rooms (music, band, art). The Little Theatre is located in the adjacent 1914 wing. In 2003 the College Street Wing, three floors of modern classrooms, was completed, creating an interior courtyard. School facilities include two computer labs, a media centre, three science labs, libraries and a gymnasium.Mementos of the school's history in the form of paintings, furniture, cabinets and memorabilia are located throughout the school.
In September of 2009, a brand new building to house Fountain Academy of the Sacred Heart, boys' high school, opened adjacent to the original building. It was designed to complement the old world charm of Sacred Heart School.
